Kerala Braces for Intense Rainfall: Thunderstorms Expected Over the Next Five Days
Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant weather development, the Kerala State Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across the state for the next five days. The intensified monsoon conditions are expected to affect various districts, raising concerns among local authorities and residents alike, especially in flood-prone areas.
According to the latest forecast, regions in northern and central Kerala are likely to experience the brunt of the downpours, with cumulative rainfall expected to exceed 200 mm in some areas by the end of the week. The weather system is influenced by a combination of monsoon winds and atmospheric disturbances, leading to the prediction of severe thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and gusty winds.
Meteorologist Dr. Ramesh Krishnan from the Kerala State Meteorological Department stated, "The monsoon is currently at its peak, and the conditions are ripe for heavy precipitation. We advise residents to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable areas where flooding and landslides could occur." He emphasized the importance of following updates from official weather channels and local authorities.
In addition to the immediate challenges posed by the anticipated rainfall, environmental experts are warning about the long-term implications of intensified weather patterns linked to climate change. കേരള സംസ്ഥാന കാലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പിലെ കാലാവസ്ഥാ നിരീക്ഷകൻ ഡോ. രമേശ് കൃഷ്ണൻ പറഞ്ഞു, "മൺസൂൺ നിലവിൽ അതിന്റെ ഉച്ചസ്ഥായിയിലാണ്, കനത്ത മഴയ്ക്ക് സാഹചര്യങ്ങൾ പാകമായിരിക്കുന്നു. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കവും മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലും ഉണ്ടാകാൻ സാധ്യതയുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ, ജനങ്ങൾ ജാഗ്രത പാലിക്കണമെന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾ നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നു." ഔദ്യോഗിക കാലാവസ്ഥാ ഏജൻസികളിൽ നിന്നും തദ്ദേശ സ്വയംഭരണ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുമുള്ള അപ്ഡേറ്റുകൾ പാലിക്കേണ്ടതിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം അദ്ദേഹം ഊന്നിപ്പറഞ്ഞു.
